Hypnosis and Control – Hypnotherapy in Ely Vlog

In this video, I cover the relationship between hypnosis and control. Many people worry about being controlled by the hypnotherapist during hypnosis and fear a loss of control. Yet, if you were really in control over your thoughts, feelings, actions and reactions then you wouldn’t need any help for things like anxiety, stress, fear and low self-esteem. Hypnosis is all about helping you to learn how to take control over your thoughts and feelings, and that means that you need to be mentally engaged in your hypnotherapy, which in turn means you can take back control (with a bit of help from the hypnotist). Hypnosis and Control:

Hello, it’s Dan here. I hope you’re good today. Today I just wanted to say a few words about hypnosis and control because a lot of people have a misconception that hypnosis involves some kind of mind control like me, as the hypnotist or hypnotherapist, is going to zap them, if you like, and get into their heads and play around in some way to help them get to the kind of therapeutic results they’re after.

In fact, although things on TV, in dramas and films and things can make it look like the hypnotist/ hypnotherapist is somehow taking that level of control, you really shouldn’t let a fear of being out of control put you off getting help from a hypnotherapist. In fact, hypnotherapy is all about helping you to take control over the kind of stuff going on inside your head. To help you to find ways to orchestrate what’s you’re experiencing. It’s an engaged thing, you want to be mentally engaged in it, to have a positive mind set about it, to expect it, to be thinking the kinds of things that  are suggested , to be following the kind of steps that are put in place.

There will be an element of putting stuff into place, and practising things, outside the sessions. So, the job of a hypnotherapist is to help you to take control over your own thinking, your own feelings, your own behaviours, your mindset, your beliefs, rather than you being controlled by them. It comes up quite a lot. It came up recently in a feedback testimonial I got about someone who appreciated recognising that their fear, which in that case I think was a fear of flying, but it’s the same with anxiety, stress, if you were in control already over your thoughts, your feelings, your expectations, if you were able to orchestrate and direct those things, then you wouldn’t have that issue.

You would have extinguished it in some way, you would have changed those kind of patterns. Yet we get stuck repeating the same kind of things, the same situations, whether that’s a fear, a phobia, stress, anxiety, worry, self-doubt, a lack of confidence, it’s repeat, repeat. We want to use the techniques involved in hypnosis and hypnotherapy which have a mass of evidence, science and research to support them, so you have that kind of mindset, can take control of those things, so you’re not affected by those things, both in terms of what you come for help with, and into the future.

So rather than being controlled by your particular problem, like anxiety, I want to help you to be back in control, so that you’re deciding what affects you, what’s dominating your mind, you can do stuff about things that pop into your mind, thoughts, feelings, behaviours, expectations, beliefs. Hypnosis is not about being out of control, it’s about learning how to take control, which can only be a good thing both now and into the future.

So if you really want to be in control, check out my website, get in touch, and I can help you to do that. Like I say, anxiety, stress, worries, fears, any of those kind of issues. Even things you want to get better at, whether that’s sport, or you want to enjoy things more, or feel more positive, let’s work together, let’s help you to be able to orchestrate those things, and be in control of those things, so you feel better, calmer, confident, happier, and can enjoy life more with more of a sense of wellbeing. So, it’s all about helping you to take control rather than being controlled in some kind of way. Let’s face it, if I could get in your brain and take control, I wouldn’t need to work. I‘d just get your PIN number, clear out your bank account, and I’d be ruling the world. Ha ha ha. I’ve gone off on one now. You take care and I will speak to you soon. Take care now.
