One thing that often comes up when I work with clients to build confidence and overcome self doubt and anxiety, is developing the resiliance and capability to deal with challenges.

Life is going to throw challenges at all of us, and how we respond to them helps dicatate whether we give in and get out or stay strong and move on.

And I love seeing self belief, resiliance and determination put into practice. Yesterday I took my daughter to watch Cambridge United WFC play in a cup match and found their tenacity, team work and resiliance to be awesomely inspiring.

Pride, Passion and Mental Strength

The match yesterday was a cup game between Cambridge United WFC and Lewes Ladies FC and I was pround and happy enough even before the game because my eldest daugther was the Cambridge team mascot. And what a lucky mascot she turned out to be!!

I think after the game one of the Cambridge players talked about the pride, passion and mental strength of the team who won after extra time and penalties to go through to the next round of the cup.

That was despite going 2-0 down fairly early on, when it would have been easy to just drop heads and give in. In fact, such was their determination that they battled on until the very last minute of normal time to equalise.

And then, with only about ten minutes of extra time left they went 3-2 down to an unlucky own goal yet battled back to equalise and send the game to penalties.

A lot gets spoken about penalties in football (especially by English fans!) so I have huge admiration to the players of both teams who stood up to the pressure and focus and took the penalties.

The winning penalty goes flying in!

It was an absolutely gripping game and I think that overall the best team on the day won. It was a fantastic advert for the high standard of the women's game.

And it was a huge reminder that although challenges and adversity may come our way, if you stay focussed, keep believing and keep going then you can achieve the success you are seeking.

Best of luck to Cambridge WFC in the next round!
